ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

The Trainee Ranger course is run in partnership with the Countryside Management Service of East Sussex County Council. It has been running for over 20 years and is well established and highly respected by local employers. Former trainees are working all over the County for various conservation organisations such as the National Trust, English Nature, the Wildlife Trusts and a number of local authorities.

The training is practically based, covering habitat management and access work on long distance trails and countryside sites. Trainees help to look after a wide range of habitats including woodland, grassland, wetland and sand dune systems. There are also opportunities to produce education and interpretation materials.

The training includes formal qualifications like the NVQ2 in Environmental Conservation, NPTC Chainsaw certificates, and First Aid. A wide range of short training courses are also offered in areas like hedge laying, guided walks and environmental surveying techniques.
