PRACTICAL CRAFT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESAMP participants receive in-depth training in a wide range of traditional craft skills. Sometimes these crafts originated in the prehistoric period and their usage carried on until the recent period here in Sussex. ESAMP trainees not only learn the actual craft skills but they also gain experience in carrying out the necessary background research. They learn how to set up and use these crafts in an educational framework. This is an excellent opportunity for those aiming to become education officers, craft officers or museum demonstrators.

Experience can be gained in the following areas:

Traditional building skills, bronze casting, flint knapping, woodturning, pottery (hand building, wheel throwing and kiln firing), textiles (spinning, weaving and dyeing), thatching, coracle making, charcoal burning, medieval wall painting, making medieval inlaid floor tiles... and many other similar areas.
